Happy Holidays!
Welcome to our ongoing installment of ‘The State of the Stack’, a bi-weekly somewhat sporadic newsletter that will take a look at where we are, where we’re going, and what you - my wonderful subscribers - can look forward to here on our website.
First of all, I want to thank you all so very much for subscribing to my newsletter. It has been a joy to write again and knowing that there are people out there actually reading it makes it all that more special. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me and I deeply appreciate you all coming along for the ride.
The BIG NEWS is that our previous section - Beyond the Azure Wastes - has become its own Substack newsletter. It focuses on fantasy/science fiction short stories and serialized novels. This is my true passion, writing fiction. It’s also the area of writing that I struggle with the most so I’m excited to share that process. Along with story-telling, I’m currently building a new role-playing game (RPG). I’ll talk about it’s construction and what I think makes for great, creative, and realistic gameplay/story-telling. To that end, it just made more sense to create an entirely new newsletter. I was having trouble switching back and forth between the personal essays and the fiction writing within the same newsletter. This feels more authentic and I believe the writing will be better, which is whole point.
So if you’re interested in following my fiction writing, you can subscribe HERE. Just like this newsletter, you’ll receive an email every time a new post comes out so, in that regard, nothing will change. Thanks again!
As of this writing, we have 62 subscribers! But we’ll keep growing, so I want this to be the best newsletter it can be. To that end, I’d love it if you’d take the time to leave a comment about what you think is working and/or what you’d like to see more of. This is still the ground floor. You’re on it. So I invite you to help shape our future here. I’ve learned that commenting on the site means becoming a Substack member, so it is an extra step. But it’s still a free sign-up and, if you’re willing, we’d love to have your input.
Just a reminder, Scott Weinzirl’s Substack is now divided into two sections: Personal essays, anecdotes, and updates like the one you’re reading right now.
And…
No Room for Nuance: Satiric yet thoughtful writing based on politics and culture because, I mean, who wouldn’t want to read the opinions of yet another middle-aged white guy?
As always, you’ll get an email alert whenever anything new is posted, regardless of the section, so you won’t miss out. If you get an article you’re not interested in, please feel free to ignore it. However, if you do find something you really like, please share it with others on your drug platform of choice.
That’s it for this edition. So, leave a comment and let us know what you’re thinking, who’s your current favorite F1 driver, why you think Carrot Top is an underrated comedian, whatever.
And, again, thank you all very much. You keep reading, I’ll keep writing.
