Welcome to our first installment of ‘State of the Stack’, a bi-weekly newsletter that will take a look at where we are, where we’re going, and what you - my wonderful subscribers - can look forward to here on our website.
First of all, I want to thank you all so very much for subscribing to my newsletter. It has been a joy to write again and knowing that there are people out there actually reading it makes it all that more special. This has been a fantastic opportunity for me and I deeply appreciate you all coming along for the ride.
As of this writing, we have 22 subscribers! And nine of you I don’t even know personally. Not bad, huh? But we’ll keep growing, so I want this to be the best newsletter it can be. To that end, I’d love it if you’d take the time to leave a comment about what you think is working, what you’d like to see more of, and/or what you’d like to see done differently. This is the ground floor, you’re on it, and I invite you to help shape our future here at Scott Weinzirl’s Substack.
We have to two sub-sections of the newsletter that you may have noticed if you’ve wandered around the site recently. They’re in the early stages so there’s not a lot of content yet, but stay tuned for much more over the coming weeks. As always, you’ll get an email alert whenever anything new is posted, regardless of the section, so you won’t miss out.
No Room for Nuance is our politics newsletter. I’m hoping to bring, if not a unique, at least an uncommon point of view on current events and what seems to be a deepening Right/Left divide in the US. I understand if it’s not your cup of tea, but give it a try and see what you think. You might find it refreshing. Or infuriating. I get those two mixed up sometimes.
Beyond the Azure Wastes is our newsletter for fantasy, sci-fi, and fiction in general. Many of the tales will be written in small ongoing chapters, but a few will be “one shot” stories. As always, let me know what you think of the writing. My main goal with this newsletter is to get better at the craft and produce the best stories possible. So critique away. I love feedback of all kinds.
That’s about it for this first edition. Once things really get rolling we’ll start to evolve a bit, hopefully with your help. So, leave a comment and let us know what you’re thinking, what you had for breakfast, why you believe Clint Eastwood would have made a great Keaton-era Batman, whatever. And don’t forget to check out a couple of my recommendations for other Substack newletters on the homepage.
And, again, thank you all very much. You keep reading, I’ll keep writing.
For breakfast, I'm eating ramen with stale rice and half frozen peas, so I've clearly got my life together. Congrats on over 20 subscribers, keep writing!
